Summary of Field Work: |
We propose to acquire multichannel seismic reflection data, marine and land seismic refraction data, and land and marine broadband seismic data in the Mid-Atlantic states (around Cape Hatteras) in May/July 2014. Broadband ocean-bottom seismometers (OBSs) will be deployed for one year, so they must be retrieved a year later in May/June 2015. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
We request the use of several vessels for this proposed project. Acquisition of marine seismic reflection and refraction data will be require 33 days at sea of the R/V Marcus Langseth in June/July 2014. We request the R/V Knorr to deploy a total of 30 broadband OBSs over 12 days in May 1-15, 2014. The R/V Knorr is also requested in May 2015 for 12 days to retrieved the broadband OBSs. We also request 26 days on the R/V Endeavor in June/July 2014 to deploy and recover 47 short-period OBSs. |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
In our schedule, the R/V Marcus Langseth starts her 33-day ship cruise 1 day after the start of the 26-day cruise of the R/V Endeavor. The R/V Endeavor is the ship that we use for short-period OBS deployments. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
We propose to start this project at the start of summer to allow students to participate. We would also want to finish before the end of the summer to reduce the risk of hurricanes. |
