Summary of Field Work: |
We plan to use a Mother Tucker trawl, plankton nets, squid jigging and scientific SCUBA diving to collect animals of interest for our work. Our work will consist of a CTD to start the day, followed by 3 - 4 large net deployments at various depths during the day to collect animals. At night, the science party will conduct jigging for squids over the rail of the ship. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
We will need a CTDO, rosette, A-frame and winch with 0.64" conducting wire for net operation, sufficient deck space for net deployments, and if possible a small boat and compressor for SCUBA operations. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
The R/V Hugh Sharp will allow us to drive our personnel and gear from Philadelphia and Rhode Island to the port, resulting in significant cost savings over shipping gear and flying to a more distant port. Teaching schedules dictate that we schedule cruises in the summer break. |

Explanation of Science Party Requirements and Technician Requirements |
The Sweeney group now consists of 11 scientists, plus a few collaborators brings the size of the science party to 14. A resident technician is needed to assist with ship equipment such as the CTD, and to help maintain safety during net deployments. |
