Summary of Field Work: |
This grant will support a Chief Scientist Training (CST) cruise on the R/V Atlantic Explorer from Barbados to Bermuda in May and June 2014. CST cruises are part of an educational initiative designed for young US oceanographers, from senior graduate students to junior faculty, to increase their participation in seagoing research by educating them about the capabilities and opportunities provided by the UNOLS research fleet. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
The exact facilities required for this cruise are not known until the cruise participants are selected, but will include (not exclusive) the CTD rosette, Hydrowire, underway clean seawater system, rad van, and ADCP |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
Once participants are selected, the appointed co-Chief Scientists will work with the BIOS marine tech to identify the science and equipment needs for the cruise. |

Explanation of Science Party Requirements and Technician Requirements |
The first marine tech will be from the Atlantic Explorer. The second Marine Tech will be from a different institution. Ideally, the second marine tech will be a more senior person who has complementary experience and expertise to that of the Atlantic Explorer marine tech, and also strong interest in helping to fulfill the CST objectives. |
