Summary of Field Work: |
We propose to use a SeaBED autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) deployed and retrieved from the R/V Pt. Sur. We may also use an ROV or drop camera array. Optical surveys of corals, sponges, and associated habitats and fishes will be conducted during this cruise in areas of high coral abundance on the Oregon-California border to approximately 1000 m water depth. Sampling of corals and sponges may be conducted using an ROV. Data on salinity, temperature, depth, and location will be collected throughout the cruise. Our goal will be to assess the abundance, distribution, and habitats of corals and sponges on rocky outcrops off northern California and southern Oregon. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Use of R/V Pt. Sur including CTD equipment, Knudsen Echosounder, ADCP, crane. |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
Requires day and night ops. |
