Summary of Field Work: |
Three sound source moorings were deployed in US waters and one in Mexican waters in the Gulf of Mexico in July/August 2011. Since then, APEX and RAFOS drifters have been deployed to study ocean circulation at different levels in the water column. The sound source moorings are scheduled for recovery in May/June 2015. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
7-8 days of R/V PELICAN with stern A-frame, crane and room on trawl winch drum to handle 5000 m 3/16" jacketed (1/4" diameter) wire rope. |

Dates to Avoid: |
Trying to have cruise start date in this window to have sufficient time to get ready for another cruise scheduled for 11-23 June 2015. Also, we are within two months of the manufacturer's stated endurance for the releases on the moorings. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
We mobilized and deployed the sound source moorings from the R/V PELICAN in July 2011 and LUMCON is strategically located in the center of the offshore study area where the sound sources were deployed. Ship's crew is very familiar with these type efforts and they and the scientific party have worked together for many years. Total time at sea is expected to be six days, including steaming time and time on station for the three mooring recoveries. Mobilization and demobilization on either end of the cruise should not be more than a few hours. |
