Summary of Field Work: |
This work will consist of a single multi-coring and CTD cruise in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Sediment samples will be collected from a safe working distance from wooden and metal shipwrecks. Sediments will be used it isolate, culture and identify microorganisms from the dark biosphere which contain novel and enhanced pathways for dark carbon fixation. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
CTD - Rosette, Multi-Corer (MC800). |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
A navigation beacon for the Multi-corer is desired to confirm and maintain safety while working in proximity to shipwrecks. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
Ship choice is based on the field operating location, dates are flexible, but must occur during summer for collaborator flexibility, number of days are based on the number of anticipated sites. |
