Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Summary of Field Work: We will conduct blue-water diving, mid-water trawls and potentially use a fly-away ROV to collect ctenophores. This work will take place in the lee of Oahu and the big island of Hawaii.
Summary of Facility Requirements: Support for blue-water SCUBA diving. Wet lab space for conducting metabolism experiments.
Summary of other requirements and comments: We will need a 0.68 conducting cable. MBARI's miniROV will not be available for our 2017 cruise, but we expect to have it for our 2018 cruise.

Repeating Cruise?
(within same year)
No Interval:   # of Cruises:

Description of Repeating cruise requirements: N/A
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations:
We requested two years in succession, and want the dates to be roughly 18 months apart. So this second cruise should be in October/November 2018.

Two Conflict Dates: We have a MBARI cruise in July/August off CA. Haddock is chair of the 15th Deep-Sea Biology Symposium that will be held September 9-14, 2018 in Monterey, California.

It looks like MBARI's miniROV will be available in October for us to use, and we would like to coordinate scheduling with MBARI to be able to use the ROV on the KM. We ended up using the KOK for the first cruise (without the ROV) and that ship worked well for us. We'll need to bring extra tech support for the ROV so our science party will be bigger.
