Summary of Field Work: |
The objective of the proposed RAPID work is to examine plume dynamics under increased sediment discharge and normal shelf oceanic conditions. The recent water and sediment discharge conditions encountered in South Carolina represent an unusual, potentially important regime of coastal buoyant plume which has not been studied before and we seek to see how increased water densities affect the evolution of a bouyan plume. The unusually heavy sediment load, following the flood, contributes to a reduced plume density anomaly, resulting in the reduction of the flow velocity affecting plume evolution. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
We will need CTD/Rosette for hydrographic profiles and water sampling for correcting turbuidity values to actual sediment concentrations. Also ADCP for water profiling (due to shallow waters a 1200Khz will be better although we can work with other frequencies too. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
This is a RAPID response project in response of the SC Floods. We try to capture the elevated river discharges following the flood at various stages as the river discharge reduces over time. |
