Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Funding Agencies: NAVY/ONR - NONE - Funded
Summary of Field Work: This is a request for two 1-day cruises. Each cruise would leave and return to MarFac/San Diego and operate within the San Diego Trough and on the eastern end of the Catalina Basin. The primary objective of the cruises would be the deployment (first cruise) and recovery (second cruise) of two acoustic moorings within the interior waters of the Southern California Bight.
Summary of Facility Requirements: R/V RG Sproul with A-frame and winch for handling 650 m mooring.

No Interval:   # of Cruises:

Description of Repeating cruise requirements: This is the recovery cruise for deployment that occurred in August with RG Sproul.
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations:
Opportunity to test Sally Ride's mooring recovery abilities. One day should be sufficient to transit to areas of interest and recover the moorings.

Short Description of Op Area
for use in schedules:
Catalina Basin
Description of Op Area: Moorings will be deployed in two locations. One is on the east edge of the San Diego Trough and the other on the southeast side of Catalina Basin.
