STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. Summary of Field Work: Investigation into processes important the physical and biogeochemical variability the Northern Gulf of Alaska, with particular emphasis on freshwater input and spring bloom conditions.
The work comprises six field seasons. All fieldwork will take place in the Northern Gulf of Alaska shelf and slope region. Spring work (2 years) will target the initiation and evolution of the spring bloom, and will include the furthest offshore stations - spring bloom processes will be targeted during these cruises. Summer work (3 years) will be divided into two longer studies of fresh water input and plume dynamics, and one shorter studies of post spring-bloom conditions.
Summary of Facility Requirements: We will require a conventional CTD sampling rosette, meteorological, underway, and current data (sea-chest and ADCP), enough room on deck to deploy/recover moorings. Space to store a PI provided trace metal clean rosette/CTD system, in-situ pumps, and acrobat towed vehicle.
We will also require a clean van and a portable winch with kevlar line for trace metal work during two spring and two summer cruises.
Summary of other requirements and comments: There are a total of 5 ship requests for this project. Three during June/July and two during April/May. The specific years when these take place are flexible.

Explanation of Science Party Requirements and Technician Requirements The science team is comprised of scientist from three collaborating institutions: The university of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), Western Washington University (WWU), and the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). UAF teams: Hopcroft -11 scientist (2 PI, 4 graduate students, 2 undergraduate students, 2 technicians, and 1 bird observer (USFWS); Danielson - 3 scientists (1 PI, 2 technicians); Aguilar-Islas - 3 scientists (1 PI, 1 student, 1 technician).
