Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Project Title: Science Verification Cruise - Multi-disciplinary Project Status: Submitted
Principal Investigator: Simone Baumann-Pickering, SIO Project Institution: SIO
Project ID: 105508 Version #: 2
Date Submitted: 8/15/2016 1:20:00 PM Created By: Simone Baumann-Pickering
Date Last Modified: 2/14/2017 12:53:00 PM URI Serial #: None
Funding Agencies: INST/UCSD/SIO - NONE - Funded
Summary of Field Work: We propose a science verification cruise (SVC) which will test a range of equipment and capabilities for mooring and acoustic work, exercising several winches, cranes, sonars, underway systems, and helping to characterize the underwater noise from the vessel impacting acoustic work. The cruise would contribute to ONR funded work within the Young Investigator Program (YIP) award to Simone Baumann-Pickering. Additionally, we propose to drag for a co-located lost NOAA mooring of Uwe Send’s group (in 4000m water depth).
Summary of Facility Requirements: CTD (+winch), A-frame, MOCNESS (+winch) and Manta, davit for deployment of float, TSE winch for dragging, two air tuggers, weak links from 10-15K lbs, clamp on pinger, winch for acoustic array, antenna for sonobuoys, Simrad EK80 (all frequencies), auxiliary underway measurements as available

Foreign Clearance and Permitting Requirements
Foreign Clearance Required? No Coastal States:
Important Info on Foreign Research Clearances

Are you or any member in your science party bringing in any science equipment items which are regulated for export by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)?
Yes If yes, have you applied for the necessary permits through your export control office? No
 Questions about ITAR/EAR regulations?

Comments about foreign clearance requirements or
description of any other special permitting requirements
(e.g., MMPA, ESA, IHA, Marine Sanctuaries, etc.)
We'll be bringing a towed array and sonobuoys. Both will need ITAR clearance.
