Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Summary of Field Work: The proposed observational experiment is to study isopycnal spectra and stirring on the submeso- and finescales. The primary platform is a 200-m long towed chain equipped with 60 CTD sensors with realtime data capability. The experimental site is within the box of 125-130W, 30-35 N. The experiment will be conducted in summer of 2018.
Summary of Facility Requirements: TSE winch, shipboard CTD, and shipboard 300kHz ADCP, standard met sensors

Explain Instrumentation or Capability
requirements that could affect choice
of ship in scheduling.

Shipboerd ADCP is needed for making velocity measuremetns. 300kHz ADCP is preferred. If not, we will bring our own 300kHz ADCP. Dynamic positioning will be preferred for the hove to operation. We also would like to have an additional 75kHz ADCP for providing deeper velocity information.
