Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

  Project Information
Project Title: Unlocking the secrets of slow slip with IODP drilling and next-generation seismic experiments Project Status: Submitted
Principal Investigator: Rebecca Bell, IC Project Institution: IC
Project ID: 105739 Version #: 3
Date Submitted: 3/9/2017 1:54:00 PM Created By: Rebecca Bell

Funding Agencies: OTHER - NONE - Funded
Summary of Field Work: The proposed project is a 35 day 3D seismic acquisition project on the R/V Langseth to survey a 15 x 60 km area offshore of the eastern margin of the north island of New Zealand. The proposed acquisition would ideally occur during the southern summer in 2018/2017. The NSF ship request is 25 days (PI: Bangs). This request is for 10 additional days (for a total of 35) that will be provide by NERC through a barter with NSF.
Summary of Facility Requirements: Primary facilities needed would be the 3D seismic system (4- 6,000 m streamers and dual source array). Additional would be multibeam, chirp, gravity, magnetics, and XBTs

Description of Repeating cruise requirements: N/A
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations:
Langseth is required to have access to 3D facilities. The dates are flexible, but southern
summer is best. No specific conflicts.
