Summary of Field Work: |
Monthly physical and biogeochemical time-series sampling at the Bermuda Atlantic Time-series Study (BATS) site in the subtropical North Atlantic Ocean (NA06). Operations consist of 10-20 CTD casts profiling to full ocean depth (4,500 m), deployment of free drifting arrays (e.g., sediment traps and primary production), and zooplankton/phytoplankton tows each cruise as part of the BATS project. The science compliment is typically 8-12 scientific staff, depending on collaborative projects. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Each BATS cruise will be 5 days duration using the R/V Atlantic Explorer, and utilizing all the facilities the ship currently possesses (e.g., winches, CTD rosette, underway systems, etc). |

|
Description of Repeating cruise requirements: |
Each year, twelve monthly core BATS cruises (4 days each cruise); 3 spring biweekly cruise (2 days each cruise), and one BATS validation transect (10 days)
Ship request for 2018
Please note we already have ship days allocated for BATS in 2018. |
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
The R/V Atlantic Explorer (being located in Bermuda) is the ideal vessel to successfully conduct the BATS time-series project. |
