Summary of Field Work: |
THE CRUISE WILL BE A LOCAL (SAN DIEGO) ENGINEERING TEST FOR TWO NEW MULTI-SCALEW OCEAN DYNAMIC (MOD) GROUP INSTRUMENTS. ALL INSTRUMENTS WILL COLLECT CONDUCTIVITY, TEMPERATURE, DEPTH AND SHEAR/TURBULENCE DATA.
FCTD-EPSI: USE A CUSTOM DECK-MOUNTED WINCH/BOOM TO DEPLOY SMALL (50LB) DROPPING BODY TO A DEPTH OF 1000M. DEPLOYMENT WILL REPEAT EVERY 10 MINUTES FOR ABOUT 12-24HRS AT A TIME.
ALSO, DEPLOY 2-3 WIREWALKERS. WIREWALKERS ARE A SURFACE EXPRESSION WITH A 100LB PROFILER THAT TRAVELS UP AND DOWN A 100-300M LINE. THEY ARE TYPICALLY USED WITH AN ANCHOR TO PREVENT DRIFTING AND TO HOLD TENSION ON THE LINE. THEY ARE DEPLOYED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CRUISE AND RECOVERED AT THE END OF THE CRUISE. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
WE WILL NEED THE CTD ROSETTE AS WELL AS DECK SPACE SUFFICIENT FOR MOUNTING OUR WINCH SYSTEM AND TEMPORARY SPACE FOR 2-3 WIREWALKER SYSTEMS. THE WIREWALKER SURFACE EXPRESSION IS ABOUT 3FT IN DIAMETER AND WEIGHTS ABOUT 150LB. |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
UNFUNDED. SPONSOR HAS GUARANTEED FUNDS. |
