Summary of Field Work: |
This project will examine the soundscape and benthic and pelagic biodiversity of 10 coral reefs located on the southern coast of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. We request that the ship will be moored in Lameshur Bay, St. John, and we will use the small boats for SCUBA and other activities primarily during the day light hours. The activities include: - servicing of sound recorders (SCUBA based) - benthic and pelagic reef surveys (SCUBA based) - light trapping of reef fish (deployment of light traps in late afternoon and recovery in early morning) - water sampling (small boat based) |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
We will need access to SCUBA tanks (oxygen or NITROX, no preference), and may use ~20 per day. We will need access to at least two small boats. Lastly, on the ship we request access to the science refrigerator and freezer and wet and dry laboratories. |

Explanation of Science Party Requirements and Technician Requirements |
We are initially submitting the request for WHOI, and we require a science party of 8. If this is approved, we will invite US National Park Service scientists and other researchers working in St. John to join the cruise. |
