Summary of Field Work: |
We will conduct mid-water trawls (for large nekton and zooplankton) and blue-water diving, and potentially use a fly-away ROV (MBARI's) to collect siphonophores and their representative prey items. This work will occur offshore in the Southern California Current ecosystem. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Support for blue-water SCUBA diving. Technician assistance with midwater trawl deployment and recovery. Wet-lab space for processing mid-water trawl samples. Onboard -80 freezer to store collected samples. |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
We will need a 0.68 conducting cable. Use of MBARI's mini-ROV is not guaranteed, but will be requested. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
Blue-water diving operations require low wind. Otherwise, at this time we are flexible on exact cruise timing. |

Explanation of Science Party Requirements and Technician Requirements |
We need a 0.68 conducting cable for a midwater trawl and a small boat to support blue water diving. If support is available, we would like to use the 10m2-MOCNESS. Alternatively, we can use a large midwater Tucker Trawl with a MOCNESS-type opening and closing system, which would require a 0.68 conducting cable. |
