Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
need ocean or global class vessel for safe operations to deploy/recover 24 OBSs. Kilo Moana is first choice because cruises likely go in/out of Honolulu. PI has experience with K.M. and works well with crew. Any global or ocean class vessel on transit between U.S. West Coast and Honolulu is also suitable. |

Explanation/justification for requested ports and dates of intermediate stops or to list additional port stops |
in/out of honolulu is closest but any transit between u.s.
west coast and honolulu will do; start port has to have loading capabilities |

Explanation of Science Party Requirements and Technician Requirements |
science party will include students who will learn survey techniques; science party will provide technicians to operate OBSs; we will need two marine technician to operate ship computers/network/cranes/multibeam etc. around the clock |
|
Dynamic Positioning | ADCP | Multibeam | Seismic |
Dredging/Coring/Large Dia. Trawl Wire | Stern A-frame | Fiber Optic (.681) | 0.680 Coax Wire |
SCUBA Diving | Radioisotope use - briefly describe | NO Radioisotope use/Natural level work | Other Operator Provided Inst. - Describe |
1 PI-Provided Vans - briefly describe | MOCNESS | | |
|
Explain Instrumentation or Capability requirements that could affect choice of ship in scheduling. |
if WHOI provides OBSIP instruments, they likely bring a lab van; need to plug into hull 12 kHz transducer for acoustic communication with OBSs; will need winches/A-frame and/or cranes to deploy OBSs
|
|
|
Explain Major Ancillary Facilities Requirements and list description and provider for "other" systems. |
we need 25 broadband OBSs provided by the OBSIP |
