Summary of Field Work: |
Area of operations: Off San Francisco (34.75N, 125.5W). Deployment/recovery of gliders, Wave Gliders, floats. Deployment of drifters. Use of Underway CTD and/or towed undulating platform (like SeaSoar). Fieldwork coordinated with aircraft measurements to study small scale eddies by sampling in 50km-by-50km area. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
The S-MODE experiment involves measurements from a ship, 3 research aircraft, and numerous autonomous platforms. Our science interests are in April and Sept/Oct. April 2020 cruise had to be postponed because of coronavirus travel restrictions and closure of NASA Ames Research Center, which affected our coordinated experiment. We postponed again in October 2020 and are going for October 2021.
Based on discussion with Kaya Johnson, we understand this schedule to be OK, and re are editing the STR to have the right number of days. This includes the days for Andy Jessup's IRISS experiment (NSF), too. Mobilization (Newport): Oct 17-18 Transit to Science Area: Oct 19-20 Science ops: Oct 21 – Nov 6 (17 days in ops area) Transit to Newport: Nov 7-8 De-mobilization: Nov 9 |
