Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Funding Agencies: NSF/OCE/IPS - NONE - Funded
Summary of Field Work: We request the availability of a ship from the Academic Research Fleet for hosting displays, exhibits and tours during the American Geophysical Union's Fall 2019 Centennial celebration in San Francisco, CA. The purpose will be to highlight how ocean science has advanced over the past century and to project our shared future. Transportation to the ship and tours will be coordinated by AGU staff and could involve thousands of visitors from many countries around the world.
Summary of Facility Requirements: Ocean or global class vessel. For display CTD/Rosette, MOCNESS, piston corer.
Expect use of shipboard network and laboratory monitors.
Summary of other requirements and comments: An operator willing to showcase the vessel and provide staff to help conduct tours. Measures may be required to allow access to visitors with physical handicaps.
Displays and exhibits will be assembled on board and may include a diverse set of ocean science mission equipment.

For exhibit purposes it would be great to have advanced systems on board such as Jason, but only if the equipment was needed for a following cruise and could be available at no additional cost.
