Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Kauai Cable Recon  -  2019  -  Kilo Moana
  Project Information
Project Title: APL-UW Next Generation Oceanic Noiseology Project Status: Submitted
Principal Investigator: Rex Andrew, UW_APL Project Institution: UW_APL
Project ID: 106438 Version #: 1
Date Submitted: 2/20/2019 5:42:00 PM Created By: Rex Andrew

Funding Agencies: NAVY/ONR - N00014-18-1-2213 - Funded
Summary of Field Work: Reconnaissance and assessment of instrumentation moored off Kauai. The shore cable is known to have a fault. This cruise will locate a section of cable further seaward, raise the cable to the surface and bring the cable on board for assessment of the cable and the attached instrumentation, and then release the cable. Location is roughly 3 miles off-shore of NW coast of Kauai, near PMRF.
Summary of Facility Requirements: Stable ship with DP: i.e., Kilo Moana. ROV for visual location and identification of cable in about 100m of water. Standard winches and sheaves to pull cable up. Deck power, dry lab.
Summary of other requirements and comments: Bruce Howe, UH-Manoa, may have time on his ACO cruise. Bruce is very familiar with this cable and associated instrumentation.
