Summary of Field Work: |
This cruise will recover 6 intermediate period ocean bottom seismographs. The OBS are recording ambient seismic noise and the data will be used to characterize physical properties of slope sediments. If time allows, we will also test various marine geophysical instruments. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
back deck, A-Frame or ship's crane for OBS recoveries, hull-mounted Knudsen CHIRP, acoustic communications, dry lab space |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
Sharp is an ideal platform for the OBS recovery, and, barring a hurricane, can handle weather typical of the North Atlantic in August-September. Sharp will also be in Woods Hole for NOAA and ONR work and has schedule availability. |

Are you or any member in your science party bringing in any science equipment items which are regulated for export by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)?
|
Yes |
If yes, have you applied for the necessary permits through your export control office?
|
No |
Questions about ITAR/EAR regulations?
|
Comments about foreign clearance requirements or description of any other special permitting requirements (e.g., MMPA, ESA, IHA, Marine Sanctuaries, etc.) |
USGS has performed a NEPA review and approved the instrument deployment and recovery prior to the deployment. The instruments are not within any restricted area or sanctuary. |
