Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

  Project Information
Project Title: Management and Operations of the Ocean Observatories Initiative: Regional Cabled Array Project Status: Submitted
Principal Investigator: Deborah S. Kelley, UW Project Institution: UW
Project ID: 106771 Version #: 1
Date Submitted: 2/12/2020 1:13:00 AM Created By: Deborah S. Kelley
Date Last Modified: 7/19/2021 9:41:00 PM URI Serial #: None
Funding Agencies: NSF-OOI/OOI - A101403 - Funded
Summary of Field Work: This field program will turn multiple secondary junction boxes and over 100 OOI Core instruments as required each year to maintain the Regional Cabled Array. In addition, depending on infrastructure status prior to the field season, 1 or more moorings may need turned.
Summary of Facility Requirements: This work requires a global class research ship due to the amount of infrastructure to be turned, the weight of the infrastructure, and number of personnel required (36). The cruise requires the use of the remotely operated vehicle Jason for installation of infrastructure using the underbelly winch and to plug/unplug wet mate connectors - typically >40 dives.
Summary of other requirements and comments: Depending on infrastructure status, the ship must be able to handle both a medium-and heavy left OOI winch.
