Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Summary of Field Work: We plan to conduct depth-discrete midwater trawls using 1m2 and 10m2-MOCNESS systems to quantitatively sample zooplankton and micronekton across epipelagic, mesopelagic, and upper bathypelagic depths. Stations will span the continental shelf, encompassing sharp environmental gradients within the southern California Current Ecosystem. CTD casts and other ancillary operations will also be conducted at each of the stations. EK-80 data will also be continuously collected.
Summary of Facility Requirements: 10m2 and 1m2 MOCNESS systems are requested, along with appropriate conducting cable, winch, and sensors. Technician assistance is requested for MOCNESS, 24-hour operations -- trawl deployment and recovery and maintenance. Wet lab space is necessary for processing midwater trawling specimens, as well as -80 cold storage and chemical storage for preserved and frozen micronekton samples. We will also need a CTD/Rosette, with environmental sensors, and EK-80 access.
