Summary of Field Work: |
Program timing is contingent on IODP schedule: IODP currently plans to cement reentry cones in Holes 1301A and 1301B in late July to early August 2008 - dive operations should follow cementing, so that we can check quality of seals and condition of CORKs. In addition, we will replace downhole and seafloor instrumentation in Hole 1026B, and recover pressure data from Hole 1027C. Two dives are funded separately by NSF as part of OCE-0550713, so the total for Fisher et al. in 2008 is six dives (4 + 2). The rescoped 2007 NSF proposal also includes 11 dives in Summer 2009. Summer 2009 submersible operations will include: recovery and replacement of downhole and seafloor sampling and instrumentation systems in seafloor observatories in Holes 1301A and 1301B, collection of pressure data from Holes 1026B and 1027C, and removal of a supplementary battery pack on the Sub/ROV platform at Hole 1027C, in preparation for recovery and replacement of that observatory system during the following summer's drilling operations (IODP JdF2010). We will also recover pressure data from the long-term CORK observatories in Hole 857D, Middle Valley, and Holes 1024C and 1025C, at the western end of the ODP Leg 168 transect. |
