Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Summary of Field Work: Two cruises to BATS in year 1, two cruises to the subarctic North Atlantic in year 2. One cruise in spring, one in late summer for each location. Each cruise about 5 work days. Hydrographic sampling mainly
Summary of Facility Requirements: Water characteristic profiling with CTD package, water collection using Go-FLo or Niskin samplers, running seawater incubators, -80 freezer space. Underway sampling for flow cytometry.

Repeating Cruise?
(within same year)
Yes Interval: 5 mo # of Cruises: 2

Description of Repeating cruise requirements: This is the spring cruise in a plan that involves sampling in spring and late summer at the same site in the same year. We missed the spring cruise in 2013, but the late summer cruise is now scheduled for Aug-Sep 2013. So we'll want to go to the same place in the spring of 2014 that we visited in Aug 2013.
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations:
Endeavor is the right size and the right ocean for this project. We wanted to embark from Iceland to save transit time for the personnel, but if we need to do another transect from the East Coast of the US, we can do that in spring 2014, as we are planning for summer 2013.
