Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

  Project Information
Project Title: A High-Resolution Deep-AUV Magnetic Survey of the Hawaiian Jurassic Basin Project Status: Submitted
Principal Investigator: Masako Tominaga, TAMU_CS Project Institution: WHOI
Project ID: 103230 Version #: 4
Date Submitted: 2/6/2012 1:50:00 PM Created By: Masako Tominaga
Date Last Modified: 1/15/2013 12:29:00 PM URI Serial #: None
Funding Agencies: NSF/OCE/MGG - 1233000 - Funded
Summary of Field Work: This will be a cruise dedicated to carry out AUV Sentry near-bottom magnetic survey in the Hawaiian Jurassic Basin (1) to obtain definitive Jurassic magnetic record and (2) to address our overarching question: Is Jurassic magnetic field behavior globally coherent? The proposed field work is designed to complete what we proposed for TN272 cruise (Nov.-Dec. 2011), with which AUV Sentry was properly operated only for two dives (20 % of what we originally proposed).
Summary of Facility Requirements: Sentry AUV (National Deep Submergence Facility), CTD that is capable operating MISO TowCam

Description of Repeating cruise requirements:
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations:
A global class vessel with CTD, big crane, acoustically quiet environment with USBL installation (by NDSF-Sentry team), including Revelle, Melville, Kilo Moana, is the best choice to operate AUV Sentry.
