Summary of Field Work: |
Deploy 6 small moorings in the north channel and mouth of the Columbia River (MCR) to characterize the acoustical environment. Each mooring will consist of an anchor, an instrument, floatation and a surface float. I expect that deployment and recovery ops will require one day each. During the period between deployment and recovery, some of the moorings will be 'turned around' (quickly recovered, data dumped, re-batteried, redeployed). The balance of the period will be used to deploy a VLA over the side of the ship at fixed positions outside the river mouth. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Deck space for mooring deployments and recoveries. A-frame and winch with at least a 1000 lb rating. Electronic lab space for instruments. |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
R/R the R/V New Horizon or R/V Sproul. I've discussed this with Liz Brennen. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
Need a ship to deploy, turn around and recover simple moorings, and to take station outside the river to deploy a VLA over the side. Dates based on when ONR 322LO MCR project is scheduled. |
