Summary of Field Work: |
Three 4-day trips on the R/V Sproul off the coast of San Diego to 1) deploy/retrieve Autonomous Passive Acoustic Monitoring packages, and conduct controlled acoustic source tows. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
R/V Sproul has all the necessary onboard equipment (crane, A-frame, environmental data collection systems, ship GPS, etc) to conduct these 3 sea tests. |

Repeating Cruise?
(within same year) |
Yes |
Interval: |
1-2 mos. |
# of Cruises: |
2 |
|
Description of Repeating cruise requirements: |
The first Sproul trip would occur just prior to the spring CalCOFI cruise, and the 2nd Sproul trip would occur 1-2 mos. after the spring CalCOFI cruise, prior to the subsequent CalCOFI cruise. The 3rd Sproul cruise, would occur just after the summer CalCOFI cruise. |
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
The R/V Sproul has all the necessary onboard equipment for these 3 sea tests. The goal of scheduling the 3 Sproul cruises is to have one just before, a second one about in the middle, and the 3rd one just after the fall and winter CalCOFI cruises. The autonomous passive acoustic monitoring packages will be deployed near off-shore CalCOFI stations to take advantage of the oceanographic, biological, and environmental data collected by the CalCOFI program. |

Explain Instrumentation or Capability requirements that could affect choice of ship in scheduling. |
We would like to collect as much oceanographic, biological, and environmental data as reasonably feasible during each of the 3 Sproul trips.
